Se dovessi morire
che porti allora una speranza
che la mia fine sia un racconto!

Tra gli oltre 30.000morti e 68.000 feriti fino ad oggi, anche la letteratura palestinese ha perso alcuni dei suoi esponenti. Come Refaat Alareer (1979-2023), poeta e professore di letteratura all’Università islamica di Gaza, che aveva scelto di scrivere in lingua inglese per far conoscere meglio la causa palestinese all’estero. È stato ucciso in un attacco israeliano su Gaza nella notte tra mercoledì 6 e giovedì
7 dicembre 2023. Il 1° novembre aveva scritto una poesia dal titolo “If I die”, tradotta e pubblicata nella sua interezza da Orient XXI, di cui riportiamo alcuni versi:

“If I were to die”
If I were to die
that then it brings hope
may my end be a story!

Among the over 30,000 dead and 68,000 injured to date, Palestinian literature has also lost some of its exponents. Like Refaat Alareer (1979-2023), poet and professor of literature at the Islamic University of Gaza, who chose to write in English to raise awareness of the Palestinian cause abroad. He was killed in an Israeli attack on Gaza on the night between Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7 December 2023. On 1 November he wrote a poem entitled “If I die”, translated and published in its entirety by Orient XXI, of which we report some verses:

Que cela apporte alors de l’espoir
que ma fin soit une histoire !

Parmi les plus de 30 000 morts et 68 000 blessés à ce jour, la littérature palestinienne a également perdu certains de ses représentants. Comme Refaat Alareer (1979-2023), poète et professeur de littérature à l’Université islamique de Gaza, qui a choisi d’écrire en anglais pour faire connaître la cause palestinienne à l’étranger. Il a été tué lors d’une attaque israélienne sur Gaza dans la nuit du mercredi 6 au jeudi. 7 décembre 2023. Le 1er novembre, il écrit un poème intitulé « Si je meurs », traduit et publié dans son intégralité par Orient XXI, dont nous rapportons quelques vers :
